Has anyone's baby gotten on a schedule yet? O turned 6 weeks yesterday and still sleeps whenever he wants, with some days where he sleeps most of the day and other days where he cat naps on and off all day. He goes to sleep for the night anytime from 8:30-10:30pm and sometimes gives us a 5 or 6 hr stretch at night but on average, we get 4 hr stretches. I know DD fell into a schedule for bedtime (she never napped on schedule but it wasn't for lack of trying on our part) but I can't remember at what age. Is DS still too young or should I be trying at this point to get him on a schedule? I feel like I forgot everything from DD. Mine will be 6 weeks Friday. For our sanity, we've done one up, both up since day one. We have a bit of a schedule down - they go down between 9 and 10 pm, usually sleep 3-4 hours. They wake up from the next stretch between 5 and 6 am. Daytime is less predictable, but they have a good amount of awake time in the mornings, and usually have a good nap in the early afternoon. Baby girl is a solid sleeper, baby boy is awake more. I'm anticipating the 6-8 week period will be rough, so I expect them to change things up on me soon enough.

Although he has been super fussy the past couple of days...I'm thinking it's a leap, I know the wonder weeks counts by EDD and not birth date, so we'll see how it goes in a few days.

i really need to pump consistently to get my freezer stash going. I've got 8oz in the freezer and still have 4 weeks until I go so I have some time but it would be less to worry about.
I should probably start buying some clothes....I'm still up 10 lbs and only my maternity clothes fit still.

sleepymonkey, we're kinda falling into a schedule. The only definite thing is bedtime is 7pm and he takes a nap 11a-1p (usually). Everything else depends on the day 🙈

Everything else depends on the day 🙈 I would love to get his bedtime to be 7-7:30. Right now that tends to be when he's most awake. Maybe after this growth spurt, I can work on it.

I am going to attempt to be on my own with both kiddos all day today for the first time. I have been going to my parents' house on the days DD is home but It's time I try to do it on my own. DD really needs to burn off some energy and it is too hot here for DS to be outside (plus we found he has my skin and can burn in 5 minutes) so I may take them to the mall play area. If I can, I may try to go get some new bras while I'm there. My pregnancy bras are too big now but my old ones are still slightly too small.

DS1 goes down at 7:30/8p so we start DS2's bedtime at 7 in hopes that he's down when it's time for DS1 to go to bed. It often fails so there is juggling involved, but I try. Once they're both down, we go to bed lol

Good luck today sleepymonkey! As far as a schedule, the only thing that seems consistent is night time for us. Asleep between 8 and 8:30, up to eat at 2 or 2:30 then up to eat again at 5 or 5:30. I feel like B is still such a sleepy baby though. If he's in his car seat, he's usually sound asleep. And we're out a lot because C is so active it's just easier to take her out.

I still can't get J to sleep consistently at night. On a good night, it takes 1-1.5 hours to change, nurse, feed a bottle, burp, and get him to fall asleep to put down, and he'll sleep for 45 minutes to an hour. On a really good night I can put him back down pretty easily and he'll sleep until the next feeding. But rarely it goes that well for more than one feeding shift in a night and I end up with him sleeping on my chest. On a not-so-good night like yesterday I can't put him down at all. Please tell me it gets better.

Last night was particularly rough and it took some convincing even to get him to sleep on my chest. H took the baby in the morning and the 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep on my own was amazing and then he woke me up with breakfast. But now he is off to work and I actually need to get some stuff done to get ready for our 8 hour drive on Friday.

Ugh sorry for the rough night piratecat. It does get easier, I promise. How old is J? Could you try not changing him MOTN? When B wakes up to eat he doesn't fully wake up unless I change him. It always bugs me not changing him but I just tell myself that if he were sleeping through the night, I wouldn't be changing him anyway.

piratecat the first 3 months suck ass. I say this as A is in his crib screaming his head off because I can't take the screaming anymore. Buy bigger diapers for overnight and skip changing him. Also, how is his weight gain? Will he sleep in a rock n play or on another inclined surface?

tortor4 he'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. I'm still experimenting with when to change him. I don't always change him when I feed him but then sometimes he wakes up crying, but not hungry, presumably with a dirty diaper. cmb we are still doing disposables at night. Are there diapers that can hold more overnight for newborns? He just got back up to his birth weight yesterday. He naps in the RnP during the day but we would rather he not sleep in it at night. I feel better about him sleeping on me over the RnP.

sleepymonkey I feel like I tried to get dd1 on more of a schedule between 6-8w. I think they say don't worry about it the first 6 weeks. Starting daycare with dd1 was what really helped though. She started at 9 weeks. Right now, K goes down anywhere from 8:30-10:30 for a usual 5 hour stretch from when she falls asleep. Then up, which usually takes an hour because she nurses forever and usually poops. Then sleeps 3-4 hour stretch after first up. She's starting to be more awake for 1-2h in the morning, but still sleeps a lot of the day. The hardest part for us is her evening cluster feeding then fussy time right around dinner then trying to get dd1 bathed, books, and to bed. Needless to say A has been going to bed a little late since she only wants mama and K only wants boob =/
