piratecat it does get better. Your ds sounds a lot like my dd1 was as a nb. Honestly it's just a lot of their individual temperament and not anything you are or are not doing. Dd2 has been a walk in the park compared to dd1 and we have done nothing different. Do what you can to get sleep and care for yourself too! Do you wear him at all? That's the only way I did anything, including eat, when dd1 was a nb. Hugs mama

Also GL today sleepymonkey. The few hours between picking up dd1 from dc and when dh gets home are crazy. I'm scared to try all day still! I have a lot of respect for sahm. I couldn't do it!

tortor4 he'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. I'm still experimenting with when to change him. I don't always change him when I feed him but then sometimes he wakes up crying, but not hungry, presumably with a dirty diaper. cmb we are still doing disposables at night. Are there diapers that can hold more overnight for newborns? He just got back up to his birth weight yesterday. He naps in the RnP during the day but we would rather he not sleep in it at night. I feel better about him sleeping on me over the RnP. Size up in the diapers, and both huggies and pampers make overnights (huggies start at size 3, I think). He's in size 1 little snugglera during the day (we use them when out because NB cloth doesn't hold much at all), but size 2 snug & dry at night. They're giant but do the trick. He gets placed in a size 2 at 6:30/7p and then changed at the 3-5a wake up provided he hasn't pooped earlier than that (we change if he's pooped)

Also, piratecat, A had really slow weight gain at the beginning and sleep wasn't happening unless he was in his swing or RNP. Ask about reflux being a possible issue at your next app

cubbiebear325 thank you. He does like being worn in a sling and sleeps well in it so that helps. Mostly though I don't want really want to get things done, I just want him to sleep so I can nap too! piratecat I will try sizing up, thanks! He's 7.5 lbs so even some of the NB sizes are a bit large on him. We are watching his weight but mostly due to my low supply and possibly his tongue tie. What are other symptoms of reflux? We have better luck with him sleeping on his back during the day. He also sleeps well on his stomach, which is apparently good for straightening out his sacrum or something, so we've been letting him do that more during the day.

Our only scheduled thing is DD3 wakes up around 2:30 am for a feeding. Other then that she eats, sleeps, wakes randomly. It probably doesn't help that we overall don't have a good schedule except for the big girls bedtime.
We just got home from library story time....now I have hungry whiny big kids and of course DD3 wants to nurse and be held

We have better luck with him sleeping on his back during the day. He also sleeps well on his stomach, which is apparently good for straightening out his sacrum or something, so we've been letting him do that more during the day. Our signs were- inconsistent feeding: he was all over the charts on how much he would eat. Sometimes, it would be 0.5oz, others were 5oz. There was no predictability. Screaming constantly when it came to eating: no matter what bottle or nipple he tried, he would end up fighting it and screaming at it. Dribbling constantly: again, no matter what bottle or nipple, he'd spit half of it out of his mouth through the sides. Sleep: it wasn't happening except for maybe a 3 hour nap during the day, and he'd spend all night screaming. Weight gain: he was 7lbs 0.8oz at birth, 6lbs 9oz at a week, and 7lbs 3oz at two weeks. He was 9lbs 2oz at 5 weeks, which is when he got the diagnosis. I think it was the coupling of all of it that made the connection. Each thing on its own could be considered normal or have other reasonings. I'm also suspecting he has a tongue or lip tie, but things have improved so much with switching his formula

DS has been awake pretty much all morning since 7am, with maybe 1 hour total nap. He crashed out in his car seat on our way home from the mall so I transferred him to his crib and he was awake within 2 minutes. I'm leaving him and hoping he'll put himself back to sleep because he needs a nap. He's just still not good about sleeping in the crib. But he seems to be getting frustrated in the RNP lately because he can't stretch out. Not sure where he expects to sleep.

Hugs for all the sleep and feeding issues. piratecat With no known issues with DS, MOTN feedings used to take forever. I think I remember getting a newsletter from Lucie's List that said you could get through it all in 10-15 mins and get baby back to sleep, and I called BS. However, as DS has gotten older/bigger, he has also gotten more efficient at eating. Sometimes we're still up 30-45 mins, but there are other wake ups that are closer to the 15 minute mark. Hopefully things will migrate in that direction once his tongue tie is resolved. If he's not an efficient eater when nursing (and would get tired kind of "give up"), that probably impacted your supply. My stupid phone stopped charging, so Verizon had to overnight me a new one. I think I was down to 14% yesterday. It freaked me out because we don't have a home phone, so my cell is the only way I can get in touch with MH or anyone else during the day. All set now...thank goodness. I told MH yesterday that I need help around 5/5:30 on as many days as possible. That's when almost nothing works with DS. He only wants to be carried in a very particular (and unknown) position while constantly moving. After taking care of him overnight and all day, it just wears me down at that point and kills my back. I know it will eventually get better after we get through the 6-8 week age, but I don't know what will happen to my sanity in the meantime. Regarding scheduling, I'm just following his cues at this point and recording everything on my app so that I can look for patterns. My goal at night is to get him to bed between 7 and 8. He usually has his best stretch of sleep at that point, and then the stretches start to get a bit shorter as the night goes on. He seems to struggle more with staying asleep after 5am. That turned into a novel...I had so much catching up to do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been mia. I'm finding it hard to keep up with various boards and the baby and the dogs and everything lol. DD was doing well initially in her bassinet but not so much anymore so lately I've been bringing her into bed but I'm not convinced we have a safe co-sleeping set up so it makes me nervous. I have her sleep protected by my arm so it feels ok but I know not ideal. Anyone who co-sleeps have recommendations?! Our bed just feels way too soft for her. Also we can't yet let the dogs and DD be in the bed so it means DW and the dogs sleep downstairs while me and DD are upstairs. 🙁
I'm super bummed cause I had planned to go to this breastfeeding support group tomorrow but I didn't realize that my 2 week mw appointment is at the same time and I desperately want to make sure I'm healing ok cause I'm in so much pain. So I'm looking forward to the mw appt but really sad to miss the breastfeeding group.

rosesquared we bedshare after the first wake up. The main thing is to make sure blankets and pillows aren't near the baby. If I'm cold I usually wear a button down shirt to bed. Also you should make sure the baby isn't swaddled. For overheating reasons and if you get too close their flailing arms will alert you. Here's some google images that have helped me. rosesquared I'm sorry that you'll miss the BF support group but don't hesitate to ask your MW any questions concerning breastfeeding. I recently found out that one of the MWs at my practice was an LC for a long time before becoming a MW and I imagine the others would have helpful tips for breastfeeding moms as well. Good luck at your appointment!

Just want to say I'm so glad I got a Spectra S2 this time around! So much better than the medela PISA! Working on a freezer stash for when I go back to work by feeding one/pumping one first thing in the am and got 5 oz out of the left in 6 minutes this morning (oversupply and yes I know pumping doesn't help but necessary bc I'm so full and uncomfortable and for a stash). Its so much faster/efficient, which will be great when I go back to work. I used the PISA the other day and think I will be mainly sticking to the spectra this time. I just ordered adapters so all my medela bottles fit, but probably need to order another set of flanges!
