My stash was always small gimmesugarMostly just enough to cover if I'm short here and there. piratecat LO usually takes 12 oz between 8-5....sometimes 9 and only once I had to run to DC to drop off an extra bottle (I think more related to forgetting the pacifier---she doesn't take one at home but does at DC so I forgot!) I pump 3x...I usually pump 12-14 oz...the most during the first pump and usually 3 oz at the 2nd and 3rd...I do try and power pump if I have some extra time *DD2 never took more then 12 oz for a year so fingers crossed that DD3 follows and doesn't become s piggy!

piratecat I pump at 10 and 2 when at work. I did the same with dd2. I do also pump before I leave the house since it is 3.5h or longer before first pump. I pump 16-18oz. Dd2 takes 14-16 oz usually at school. Dd1 never took more than 12oz at dc ever during 13m of bf'ing.

I should also add I think stash size depends on what you want it for. I like to have a lot of extra in case something happens, supply drops, etc bc it makes me feel better. My stash last time let me stop pumping at work (and stop pumping overall) about 2-3m before she finished nursing and I would just nurse at home. I dont much like pumping so being able to stop early is nice!

How often do you guys pump at work and how many ounces are you getting and how much does your LO take? I'm pumping 3x at work - 9am/12/3:30 for 15-20minutes. I typically get 16-20oz in a day, 8 or 9oz in the first pump and then 4-6oz in the other two. I have been leaving five 4oz bottles for DH but she only takes 4 of those and then is ready to eat as soon as I get home. It is inevitable that I will miss the train or will be delayed eventually though so DH may need to use all 5 occasionally. Reading about others I'm wondering if I am overdoing it a little bit. She rarely finishes an entire 4 oz bottle (but sometimes she does), typically she leaves an ounce or a half ounce so maybe I'll try cutting back her bottle size and see how she does. I don't want her to be hungry but I think I'm pumping too much because I was a little engorged when I was wfh yesterday and nursing instead of pumping. With DD1 I cut back to 2 pumps a day around 7 months and then down to just one at 11 months before stopping at a year.

piratecat I've only been back this week so I think she's still figuring out bottles - but I'm gone usually 8-5. I pump 3x, at 9/12/3 and get about 10 oz total (usually 4, 4, 2 oz or 5, 3, 2 oz over the 3 pumps) She's been taking 6 oz over 3 bottles, 8 oz on a good day. We bedshare/cosleep/breastsleep the second half of the night so I think she gets a lot of milk then, but I'm watching her output carefully to make sure she's getting enough, and wondering if she might start gaining slower. I feel like 6 isn't enough but she just doesn't want more - she takes the bottle fine usually. I only pumped 6/day with my son so this is awesome for me but sometimes makes me worry when I see people pumping 15-20 in a day. :/. She seems happy enough though. Sometimes I add a 4th pump either during the day or after she goes to bed. This week it's been after bed to encourage my boobs to make more in the evenings, since she's getting a fair % of her intake then and my supply really drops off during the day.

gimmesugar my husband is also home this week and next, which is really helpful. J only took about 8 oz. yesterday and that's what I pumped, pumping twice. I feed him just before I leave in the morning around 7:30 and then I'm home before 5:30, so I'm gone for under 10 hours or 4 feedings. I really thought he would take more than 8 oz. and was worried when I only pumped 8. He was not feeling too well yesterday so we'll see how he does today. I could add another pumping session if I have to but I'm hoping I could slowly build a small stash by pumping on days I'm home.

Also how do you guys/your childcare providers make up the bottles and what do you/they do with leftover BM? It seems like there isn't really a strong consensus on whether you can reuse BM from the bottle the baby drinks out of and for how long.

I had about 60oz of freezer stash when I went back to work. It's just for when I don't pump enough or if I have to work late... we're down to about 30 oz now since I dealt with a dip in supply when returning to work.
I feed LO before I leave the house at about 7:30, then pump around 9:30, 12:30, 3:30 and feed him when I get home around 5:30/6. I get 12-15 oz a day pumping 20min each time. DS eats 9-15oz per day, mostly 12 oz though. It was trial and error but 3 oz bottles work best for us. If I pump an odd amount I'll make a bottle 4oz. DH stays home with DS so I don't know what daycare does with bottles not fully drank but DH saves any leftovers and feeds that first for the next feeding.

Once she starts daycare I send in the bottles and labeled with her name and a number so they know which bottle should be used first (older milk). For DD I was sending 4, 4oz bottles. They'll keep the bottle out for an hour, and then they usually put in a plastic bag and send it back home, but they won't reuse the bottle past that one hour mark. I think DH basically does the same, once she starts drinking one he'll keep it out and let her go back to it over an hour, and then he dumps whatever is left.

Our DC packet says they'll dispose of milk that's not consumed in that feeding. I plan on asking the teacher if that's definitely what they do for breastmilk. Here's some info I found on Kellymom: kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/reusing-expressedmilk/I think I'll tell DH to reuse it when he's home, especially since DS will drink it cold from the fridge.

txcatlady I am so paranoid about the supply dip when I go back. Did your supply bounce back after getting back into the swing of things?

txcatlady I am so paranoid about the supply dip when I go back. Did your supply bounce back after getting back into the swing of things? Pretty much, but I started drinking lactation tea (milkmakers tea) after the first week of lower supply. I was getting 15 oz each day then dropped to about 10, now back to 12-15 a day. I'm keeping up with DSs intake so I'm happy with that right now

I drink it periodically now, especially since I try to pump between feedings.

I either feed at the next feeding or combine into one bottle at the end of the day. We're not at daycare though.
