SomersIsles, cmb makes a great point - your state/insurance may have a stay, but your docs may want to discharge you early. In my case, NJ requires 4 'midnights' after a c-section. They tried to get me out a day early, but I protested. Then my BP issues made the decision for them.

I also had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery. For some reason they were way pushy about getting me out of there at 24 hours, it was really weird. I had left after 24 hours before, but never pushed so hard. Literally at 9cm (Friday around 645 am) the nurses started talking about how they could get discharged Saturday morning. I went to my post partum room, and they immedaitely handed me my birth certificate paper work so they could type it up already and be ready to go. It was really odd how gung ho they were to get me out of there. The funny part is each nurse that came in said I was the easiest patient because I never called them and asked for anything.

Interesting...they are talking about trying to get me out in 24 hours right now. I'm all for it though because I miss DS1.

SomersIsles, I went in on Monday morning for a RCS and was out on Wednesday evening. They asked if I wanted to stay another night and I would have if it wasn't for missing DD so much. It would have been nice to have one more night to send DS to the nursery for a few hours so we could get some sleep!

I'm going to get to stay 48 hours and I plan to fully enjoy it lol. The birth center we looked at sends you home after 12 hours and that seemed kind of rough as a FTM.

I went from trying to leave early, to trying to figure out ways to stay longer...

I went from trying to leave early, to trying to figure out ways to stay longer... When DS was in the NICU I ended up staying in his NICU room 24/7 til he was discharged. "Fortunately" his complications meant he had a private space with a sliding glass door so I got a cot. It was tricky but do-able. It was only a 10 day stay though! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

But we got a room at a hotel that is literally two doors down on the same block as the hospital so we have somewhere to sleep for the couple hour blocks between overnight nursing. We're definitely hoping for days here, not weeks. She's still doing well, though I think I need to get her to eat more bc she's only a few oz from losing 10% of her birth weight. Which, I mean, come on, she was almost 10 lbs, she's got some room lol
