Ok. Question for everybody with a toddler + the new baby:
I just had my first bedtime with both kids solo. It did not go smoothly. I mean, the toddler is in bed and I think has stayed there for a bit now, but it was super awkward juggling newborn and toddler, and I felt bad bc DS's bedtime story time kept getting interrupted bc I had to get the baby a paci or get her or switch positions.
So, looking for ideas. How do you do solo bedtime with toddler + newborn? Tonight I tried baby in the bouncer seat but she started screaming halfway thru one book, so that didn't work. (Ended up with baby on the floor between my feet with a paci, and DS kept looking at her like, why is she in my room...)

Do you have a carrier or wrap you could put baby in?
I haven't had to do bedtime solo yet so I don't have any advice but I'm pretty sure it will be a hot damn mess when the time comes.

Is this where I confess I will let the baby cry/fuss a little to get through a book? +1 to also using a carrier.

I stick him in his swing and let him fuss while I have white noise going. Bedtime with DS1 is our time and some of the only one on one time he gets so DS2 gets to fuss a bit

Also want to add that the one time I had to do it I took advantage of the fact that DS can't tell time. I waited until after I nursed and the baby was settled then immediately started bedtime. DS didn't realize he got an extra 25 minutes because of it

Ds1 is really good about having a baby join in on story time if they're fussing but it's awkward to hold a baby and flip pages. A carrier is actually a good idea. It would free up hands and make it less obvious the baby is there.

I haven't had to do bedtime solo yet but our routine has been working out nicely for us that I possibly could do it myself. The times definitely vary a bit depending on when the baby will need to eat but basically I bathe the baby first and get him ready for bed, feed him then put him in his crib. Then we do C's regular bedtime routine. But B usually goes down pretty nicely after that feeding so I realize this is all dependent on that.

I am kind of excited for when G is bigger so he can join in. Three in the tub sounds so cute.

My hope is that by the time I have to do bedtime by myself, O will have settled in to a regular early bedtime and will be asleep by the time J's bedtime routine starts. Right now O still doesn't have a regular bedtime and can fall asleep anytime between 8 and 10:30pm.
