piratecat We check our seat before security. It should be free and it's one less thing to carry, especially if you aren't using the seat on the plane. We got a padded case for it ( like this) to protect it which you should do either way. We also got a gate check bag for our stroller, ours isn't padded but at least keeps it clean. I agree with what sagen said about this age being easier on the plane. DD1 was always on my lap until she was 18 months and it was pretty easy to keep her happy with nursing and a few toys.

On the travel thing, we usually gate check the stroller (I just bungee cord it so it stays shut - we don't have an expensive single though). I haven't had to bring the car seat yet bc we've done public transit wherever we've gone but I've seen both the bags and also a hook/wheelie thing that lets you attach it to your roller luggage to shlep around the airport easier.
I've heard rental car seats can get not so well cleaned, aside from the obvious safety concerns, so I'd bring ours if we didn't have someone at the other end to lend us one. Do you know anyone in the are where you're going who might be able to lend you one? (Prob doesn't work if you're driving anywhere from the airport...)
Agree traveling with a baby is easier than a toddler. I've never done so many laps around an airport gate... best tip I've heard recently for toddlers is take a roll of blue painters tape and let them go nuts - super fun and compact, and removes easily. I'm 100% doing this next time.

irish14 I could definitely see DD1 being entertained with a roll of painters tape. I think I used it once to tape up ziplock baggies with finger paint in them on the window and she was more interested in the tape than the paint. Last time I bought DD a few small things so she would have some new things to play with on the plane, the Imagine Ink coloring book worked the best. Honestly once we are on the plane all she really wants to do is tear apart the inflight magazines.

We flew twice with our big when he was a lap child. Both times we gate checked our car seat.
For this age I would try to feed at take off and landing to help with equalization of the ears.
It'll defiantly be easier than flying with a toddler who just wants to move around.
This doesn't really apply yet but don't bring sippy cups with straws. Something about the change in height makes them spray everywhere when you open them in flight.

Has anyone still had issues related to MPSI with Alimentum? We tried Connor on a couple oz this week and got more blood. Is there another option? I need to call the pedi.

lastkiss the enfamil version is called Nutramigen. There's also two others, I forget the names but one is similac and one is enfamil, that contains even more broken down proteins but you *have* to have a prescription for it. It's not offered without one

lastkiss research shows gerber also makes a hypoallergenic one. EleCare, Neocate, and Nutramigen AA are the ones that require a prescription. There's no proteins, just amino acids

Er, I have a friend who lost her infant seat when she gate checked it, so I would be leery of doing that.. Ugh, that's what I'm afraid of.

lastkiss you pump, too, right? Is it possible something has hidden milk or soy in it? The blood makes me think it's a true allergy and not an intolerance, but I wonder if seeing a specialist would you figure out to what

Yesterday was DD 4 month well check. She is 12 pounds and 24 inches long. The doctor was pleased and described her as small but strong. I think my breastfeeding and pumping journey is coming to an end. Baby girls extremities started turning purple over the past week at different points. The doctor believes it could be Raynauds phenomenon. After some research my ADHD medicine maybe the cause of this. I could stop the ADHD medicine, but then I wouldn't be able to be and do my best each day. Sorry, I can't find the words to better describe my thoughts. This change will help give me much needed time in my schedule. Maybe the midnight bedtime and the 430 wake up for myself can stop. The evening routine will not be as long and I can get some control back of my time at work.

lastkissWe had blood with an intolerance that was grown out of by their first birthdays Are you BF/pumping and feeding the formula? Remember that it can take weeks for the protein to leave your/baby body so it can be getting better but still having the symptoms We used alimentum with DD1 because I didn't know that it took so long and stressed out about her having blood continue With DD2 I had an old school pediatrician that was more supportive of the fact that it would be a many week process for her/me to get everything out and then for her little gut to heal

cmb and chknma I am pumping and bottle feeding. He's been clear of symptoms from me since the middle of August. We tried the soy the first week of Sept (just 2 oz) and his symptoms cleared within a week from that time. The blood seems to correspond to when we've tried a couple oz of the Alimentum. He s not a fan of the taste so we were mixing an ounce with 3 ounces of breastmilk. I did once on Sunday, once on Monday and once on Wednesday. All 3 times he had blood in his poop about 18 hours later. It's possible it could still be something I've eaten but I've been pretty vigilant and haven't introduced new foods lately.
