Steamed butternut squash, carrots, peas, green beans, sweet potato. Apple sauce, pears, mashed avocado, banana. Stuff like that. I bought silicone ice cube molds and would freeze cubes. shawnabm1320....I was going to use the immersion blender as well because it seemed like too small of a job for my big blender. winegirl9....the food processor is also a good idea!

My child will eat any vegetable if it's in pouch form, so I still sometimes blend up veggies and mix with applesauce if he's going through a "I don't like vegetables" stage. I'm sure I'll have to stop that sometime... I got refillable pouches from Amazon.

We made our own baby food and then froze it in ice cube trays. Once the cubes were frozen, I stored them in plastic bags in the freezer. It was so convenient! Plus, I could mix flavors as J got older (ex: one cube of butternut squash with a cube of apples).
The great thing is our babies should start eating as fall produce is coming in to season, so it'll be cheap to make your own squash, root veggie, and tree fruit purees.
IMO baby food makers are a huge waste of money. Use your blender or food processer. But I also have no room for extra appliances so there's that.

I never made my own baby food with DD but I want to some kind of bad this time. How do ya'll steam your veggies?

pivot - I flip-flopped between roasting and steaming. Here's a good site for some beginner foods: wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/babyfirstfoods.htmFor steaming, I got a steamer basket and just steamed them until they were kind of soft. Then, pureed them in the blender. NOTE: You can't use the water from steamed carrots to thin out the puree. Something about the change in molecules in the water. I usually used breast milk or clean water to thin purees anyway. I always roasted my squashes (butternut, spaghetti, pumpkin, etc.). It was just easier.

I bought a baby bullet blender and steamer. I agree that it could be a waste of money for some, but I had no blender at the time and a gift card from MIL. I had so much fun steaming veggies and making purees. It was fun going to the store to see what new veggies we could try. The only one that didn't go over too well was eggplant because it turned into a solid cube of jelly in the refrigerator. Same as pps, we did sweet potatoes, apples, carrots, squash, pears, etc.

I am so sad that DS1 hates the pouches. They seem so convenient and easy. He doesn't even like yogurt in a tube. He has to be able to use a spoon or fork.
